I am making a tv stand out of 100 plus year old barn wood and wondered what you would suggest for a finish.

The proper approach to this is to install vertical strips of wood over the cracks from the outside. Just guessing here but i bet you re leaving the gray or otherwise old surface of the wood intact. For cleaning and maintaining you only need to wipe the surface with a wet rag. If you smell the odor of animals or other offensive scents use the wood for outside projects only.

The last step to clean and refinish your reclaimed wood is to properly seal the wood. Place a few pieces of the salvaged wood in a plastic bag for 48 hours.
